When Calling the helpdesk

  • Make sure that you have checked that the telephone cable is still plugged into the modem.
  • Ensure that all of your filters are properly placed - there should NOT be a filter on the DSL line and filters should be on all other extensions for that telephone line.
  • Check for lights on your modem
  • Please have your account information available
  • Know what your error is. Try to connect at least twice so that you may be able to tell the technician what problems you are experiencing.
  • When being placed on a service call, please give available times so that your apointment can be facilitated.

Tech-Tips

  • Never give out your password
  • No DSL light - turn modem off for 30 seconds and restart. If light does not come on, check to see if you have your filters on all of your other phones and NOT the DSL line
  • Error 691 - this can happen when your account has been disconnected, you have changed your password or have on CAPS lock on your keyboard. please ensure that you are typing in the correct username and password. If your account is still active and you continue to get the 691 error message, please call the helpdesk for assistance.
  • Wireless Networks - BTC is not responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of your wireless network so if you are having problems with your network, please isolate the network from your DSL and check to make sure that your problems are in fact DSL related before calling the helpdesk. Sometimes just restarting the wireless modem will solve your problem.
  • Error 678 - in most cases, this error is seen when your DSL light is not present. Always check to see if DSL light is present before calling the helpdesk.
